A vegan alternative to gelatin. I remembered the old wives tale about eating jelly to improve nails, I do not eat red meat so I was looking for a veggie alternative. By adding this into your diet you could see and improvement in the condition of hair, skin and nails. If nails are dry, brittle and split what is there to loose?
I believe in an inside and outside approach to health and beauty and I created this treatment combination to see if I could achieve the ‘impossible’ – healing splits in my nails due to matrix damage. I have a thumb nail where the split starts on the nail bed, which is proving harder to heal than the other 3 nails.
Starting in Nov 2017 I have taken Natures Aid Hair Skin & Nails supplement for 6 months and applied Nailtiques Protein Formula 3, silk and cuticle oil to the nail area. 6 months have passed (roughly the time it takes for the nail to form and grow down) no significant change to the nail so, as of the beginning of May 2018, I have added in other supporting nutritional supplements to try to get this last nail to heal – Viridian Beauty Oil and Solgar’s Vegetal Silica. At the end of May I also added in 1 teaspoon of Agar flakes, sprinkled onto my porridge before heating. I have also made changes to what I have been applying to the nail area (blog).
The minute I have results I will post them, right now its a waiting game whilst these supplements get to work internally. Caring for and protecting hands and nails takes time and a little and often approach, nothing happens overnight.
Sea Vegetable Gelling Agent. Suitable for vegans. Clearspring Agar Flakes are a high quality vegetarian and vegan alternative to gelatine for making desserts, jellies and aspics. They are free from chemical bleaching agents and prepared in the traditional way in Japan by cooking sea vegetables until soft then naturally freeze drying them outside in the winter sun and snow.
This box contains 28g agar flakes that can set 1650ml of liquid. One tablespoon of agar flakes can gelatinize 240ml (one tablespoon of gelatine = 425ml). Usage for firm set 1 Use one tbsp of Agar Flakes per 240ml liquid* *Acidic foods may affect the gelling strength. For best results, test recipe by taking a spoonful of the heated mixture and allowing it to rapidly set on cool surface. If the mixture does not set in a few minutes, add more flakes and simmer for a few more minutes. 2 Sprinkle the flakes over the liquid before heating 3 Heat without stirring until boiling 4 Simmer, stirring occasionally until flakes fully dissolve (5-10 minutes) 5 Pour into moulds and cool to set
